The retail floor at A1 Pharmacy

Est. 1974

An independent pharmacy, still independent.

Who we are

A1 opened on Market Street in 1974 and has never been part of a chain. That is not nostalgia — it is the reason a pharmacist here can spend fifteen minutes on a medicines review that generates no revenue, because nobody upstairs is measuring the counter in transactions per hour.

We keep a deliberately short range. Thirty-two products, each one chosen because it has evidence behind it and because we would hand it to a member of our own family. If something popular does not meet that bar, we do not stock it and we will tell you why.

We will also tell you when the answer is not a product at all. A good proportion of conversations at our counter end with someone leaving having bought nothing, which we consider a decent outcome.
